Danuta was a dull brown planet, barren, thinly populated and this, mostly by mines and hardscrabble farms. Trid was its capital.
The primary population was the Hutts During the last days of the Old Republic but later the Empire converted it to a client of the Brodsport Mining Corp. Danuta was famous mostly because it was met with one of the many trade routes to Kessel and travellers used to stop there.
Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, the Imperial garrison on the outskirts of Trid was expanded into a full military instalment, home to a sprawling research facility visited by the Imperial Security Bureau and scientists, like Bevel Lemelisk. The Death Star I plans were hidden there.
Because of the curious visits, the Alliance learnt what was happening there. Kyle Katarn managed to infiltrate the base, steal the plans and give them to the Alliance.
The research facility then fell into disuse, and now Danuta was adapting to the novel experience of an economic boom, benefiting from the growing prominence of its neighbor Bimmisaari which joined the New Republic, along with Danuta.
